Would anyone be interested in a dive trip that would include the following elements:

accommodations in an historic inn, meals prepared by a talented chef;
dives featuring historic wrecks (oldest: French warship from 1758); abundant marine life (seals, lobsters, fish, scallops, and maybe a whale or two), bird life (eagles, gannets, puffins) above water, spectacular scenery on shore;
escorted transport to dive sites with a local diver/naturalist/guide;
boat diving from a beautiful Cape Island fishing boat which has been done over as a dive boat;
dives led by experienced local divemasters;
options to take in local historic sites and culture?

Cape Breton offers friendly people, the warmest water on the north Atlantic coast, rich history and culture, and this trip would include a visit to the Fortress of Louisbourg National Historic site, (the largest reconstructed 18th-century French fortified town in North America). Group size would range from 2 to 12 divers.

I can think of at least two at the moment (it's looking like we'll be driving over in two weeks)!

Would anyone be interested...?

I grew up in NS, but I learned to dive here in BC. I can't wait until I can't go back home and dive the wrecks. I'm already booked for two weeks of diving this July/Aug in Halifax, Port Mouton and Lunenburg, but I'd love to join you guys next year!

Let me know the details of the operation, and I'll stay in touch.

I'd definitely be interested. Of couse it would depend on the date, etc. Any chance the historic inn or dive operation have a website?

Also, adding the local historic and cultural sites would be a definite yes.

I'd consider the trip up well worth the time.
Put 'er together, post some links and some pics.
Any clue on pricing......whaddabout flying in? Or do I need a plane that floats AND flies :D?

I think the only way you can get there is by a Pack mule train.

What is the weight restriction per pack mule and do they swim too?

Seriously, (ok, I'm not known for it, but just ride with it for now) how many days and when? I'd consider driving up and would be willing to pick up a DB or two on my way from Cincinnati to Cape Breton.

Where do I get my Eh! dictionary, eh? I like to learn the local language and culture, eh.

I'm trying to get a sense of the market before I set this up . . .

OK, here is the website for the inn:

http://www.capebretonet.com/northside/annfield/index.html

The historic sites would include the Fortress of Louisbourg, the Marine Museum in Louisbourg (which I believe holds some artefacts from Le Chameau, a treasure ship found just offshore here about 30 years ago, among other things), the Fossil Museum in Sydney Mines (300 million year old fossils, one of only two such sites in the world) and the Alexander Graham Bell Museum (with the actual wreck of his hydrofoil on display, and hundreds of other artefacts from his estate - what an incredible mind that man had!)

I had priced it at about $2000.00 Cdn, that includes accommodations, meals, diving, and entrance to the attractions - some of those details need to be worked out!

As for the plane - well, I've seen that done in Newfoundland! Here you can just land at Sydney airport; or fly to Halifax, rent a car and drive up.
