I will be on a 4 day camping trip to Moro Bay CA at the end of August. Can anyone tell me about possible diving in the area?

Just some more info

Dive shops-closest to morro bay

Over the years there have been a few dive shops come and go in the morro bay and cayucas area. The last dive shop in morro bay was way cool as he would take you out in his boston whaler. Unfortunately he relocated to baja mexico and took his compressor with him.

If you are taking along kayaks another good spot is leffingwell landing in cambria by the wash rock. Often the vis within the cove is terrible at least in my experience

There is also another cove at hearst beach although i have never dove there. Looks like a mostly shallow sandy bottom when i had my kayak there a few years back with a depth finder.

Morro bay can be hit or miss depending on vis and is a shallow dive(25-35ft) Be aware of swift currents in the bay and try to dive during high slack tide for best vis and least current. There are plenty of rocks to look around in and even a small sunken boat to check out. There is also a very shallow sandy beach area across from the skate park. Not much to see there. http://www.scubaboard.com/gallery/showphoto.php/photo/8623/cat/500/page/1 Showers are located across the street by the rock for rinsing yourself off.

Due to the high boat traffic a dive flag is a must.

Thanks for the info Dryglove. It really just a camping trip but hey, if I can get a dive in, all the better!! :D
