I have a Nikonos V with the SB-105 and the 28mm lens. I love the pictures it takes but I hate the fact that it is film and everything that film entails. Are there any digital U/W cameras out that will let you get anywhere near the quality the Nikonos V has?

Cameras in the 8 megapixel range approach the resolution of some faster film, and to the human eye, with a print 8X10 or smaller it's hard to tell the difference - especially using some of the fancy new printers. But down at the actual resolution of the media, and in color saturation, film is still superior to digital.
Also, as far as I know there is no digital camera yet that will give you the near zero-delay shutter of a film camera.
But it's fast approaching the point where it'll take a machine to measure the difference... so the questions become "How big do you want to blow that up?" and "Who's the audience?"

There is no dedicated underwater digital camera that would come close to Nikonos as far as I know. As far as quality goes, many believe that Nikon D2X and Canon D1s Mk II have shown that their resolution can pretty much match or better 35mm film.
