I was thinking of heading to Puerto Galera in late August. What can I expect in terms of weather? Any other places you would recommend in the PI?

check the weather with the dive operation your hooking up with 2 to 3 days before you actually sail in.

DLTM,

PG rarely gets washed out. Most of the diving is a short banka ride away, so there is no big surf to deal with. Also due to location of dive sites, there is normally always a site that is protected from the wind and doesn't have current. PG probably doesn't lose more than 2-3 days a year due to weather, if they lose any at all.

Probably a good idea to take Axua's suggestion and contact the dive shop.

Cheers,
Drew

Check for Philippine weather here -
http://typhoon2000.ph/

The part best to watch is Animation & Waves: GOES-9 IR
That's the satellite info over Guam/ Saipan and tells you if a storm is forming there and headed west, if so, those hit the Phils in 2-3 days depending on typhoon speed.
