Cape Ann Divers has FREE escorted shore dives every Saturday and Sunday from now until the end of September. If you're renting, you need to be at the shop by 9. If you have all your stuff, 9:30-9:45 is fine. Time to sign the waiver, you know?
They'll pair you up from the assembled group, escort you to the site, give you a decent dive briefing, and hang out (they don't dive with you) until you head in for your second dive thereby allowing for assistance with the gear swap between dives.
When I first started out with them, they pretty much stuck to the basics -- Old Garden, Back Beach, Pebble, ... -- but now that Dave Shumway has taken over, I've heard rumors of places like Cathedral Rocks.
Don't get stuck. Give them a shot. Or, ... post a little earlier.

Lobstering? Not to worry Rick! Just tell 'em at Cape Ann Divers that you want to buddy up with someone who is lobstering. Happens all the time. You'd be surprised how many folks show up and want to lobster. Sometimes it's more than half of the group.

I plan on going a couple days this week but I'll be doing early morning dives.
