I've lived on the Ningaloo Reef since 1996 and pretty much nothing has killed me yet

It's very rare for us to get any jellyfish that cause even a painful sting, though we can get a few here or there. Mostly you have to be unlucky to get hit and most of the stings are more like mosquito bites. Way way further north - where's there not much diving anyway - they do get some nasties at some times during the year.

Ningaloo is awesome all year round but if you want the whale sharks the bulk of the season is from April through mid-July. There are two access points to Ningaloo: Coral Bay to the south and Exmouth to the north. Mantas are around all year out of Coral Bay and from late May through August-ish in steady numbers from Exmouth. Humpbacks start coming through around late May/early June and continue through October.

It takes a lot to get here - it's not cheap in time or money - but it's worth it. All depends on what you like to see while diving, what your budget is and how long you have to spend in Australia.
