I'm a uni student looking to do a liveaboard on the great barrier reef. I'd prefer something 3 or 4 days. What/where do you recommend? What companies are affordable yet professional?

Also, I am not a very experienced diver- I have only 15 dives logged and haven't dived in the past 2 years. I'd probably do a refresher course prior to the liveaboard.

Thanks in advance!!!

Cairns is pretty much the hub for live-aboard trips and there are few good ones to choose from. Ocean Quest and Kangaroo Explorer (the budget option) stay on the Reef and have daily transfer vessels go out each day. They move form site to site. Kangaroo explorer has one less dive than OQ but is generally cheaper with one price for all cabin types. OQ is more luxurious hence a bit more expensive.

Scubapro (there are 3 Scubapro boats) leave and return after 3 days.

So with OQ and KEX you can have 2 day 1 night or 3 days 2 night trips. Scubapro just 3 day 2 night. Also they offer a great range of sites suitable for experience as well as newly qualified. Open Water students also join these trips

These 3 go to the Outer Reef and offer great value if diving on a budget. Prices include equipment, transfers, food etc. Refreshers are around $70 for a half day and can be easily done by all 3 of the above.
