How they train special ops divers

I came across this page while searching for a "comp" mask. I particularly liked the comment about "drown proofing" the candidates by having them swim for 7 minutes with 16lbs of lead around their waist!

My friend was a marine, and his instructors idea of drown proofing was:

    - Swim 75 meters underwater on one breath
    - Step on students head to push him back down as he comes out of water gasping
    - Resucitate

This also sadly reminds of the marine recruit that died during drown proof training a few weeks back. Read it here

75m on one breath, that seems like it is pushing it. That is a long long way! Are you sure you don't mean feet? Come to think of it the 50m requirement for the rangers is pretty extreme as well, when you think the world breath hold diving record is around 160m and they only have to hold on, not propel themselves through the water. Man!

True, but this is a story coming from a drunken vet, who of course never exaggerate. Take that for what it's worth, hehe.
