I'm just curious what the makeup of the board is in terms of experience. I really envy some of the people here who've got hundreds of dives in. Hope I'm there someday.

P.S.

Apparently, I can't vote in my own poll because of some screwy thing with AOL. But I'm only at 6.

I have been diving since age 6, My father was a very active scuba instructor throughout my childhood up to 1980. I am currently an SSI AOW Instructor,PADI MSDT,SDI Instructor w 7 specialties, and TDI Adv.Nitrox, deco, and extended range instructor. I have done commercial diving as well and am a grad of commercial diving school. I have over 2700 logged recreational dives dating over 26 years. Currently serving the Town of Rye,New Hampshire as a Firefighter Paramedic

I have close to 2600 dives and finally taking the next step as a divecon (dive master) I been diving for many years and finally decided to go next level. My next move will be the instructor part, my local shop have been asking me for years and personally didn’t think much about it due to the fact, I just plane just love to dive period. oh and I work as a full time paramedic.

I have about 3500 dives - I don't count training or teaching dives
I started diving when I was 9 in Hawaii, my father was stationed there durring Viet Nam. He was a Navy diver.

After diving for about 30 years thoughs certifications just seem to add up. I believe in taking some sort of formal training every couple of years to keep up my skills in an enviroment of evaluation.

I have just the course for you... and not too far from home either :D

Is this one of those training years???

No Pug this year was a travel year. next summer will be a training year.

I will take the DIRF course, as long as attitudes stay in check i think there will be some value in it.

but what do you think they will say when i show up with my wings of death straped on.

I do have Dive Rite wings with abs backplate for caving, ya think that woulod be better.

I was recently looking at 5th D new video stuff, it seems that if you can do the skills with good boyancy then there is not much difference than some of the other courses i have taken, or skills that we do anyways. [as for skills] it appears they want you to be at the cave diver skill level. good trim, good boyance control, etc.

I am sure we both agree that anybody can do gas shut downs while going from horizantal to vertical and bouncing around in the water colum. it only makes since to do them while maintaining your bouancy and trim.

Anyways I look forward to the course, and maybe I will move over to the right side, doing it right that is.
:)

If you have those fundamental skills down pat then I would suggest starting out with Tech1... and you might want to take one or more of your current tech buds with you. Actually... if you could get a group together to take the class you might get the GUE team to come to you.... might.

As for the gear... they will definitely tell you the whys and wherefores and as long as you are in learning mode it would be best imo to go completely with the flow to see how it works.... you can always go back to what you were doing after the class.
