Just a quick question brought about by the gentleman who perished diving the Doria recently....Does decompression sickness all of a sudden hit you or can you feel it coming? and if you feel it coming, can you descend and ease your way out of it?

I think a better question would be, what does decompression sickness feel like!

there are many symptoms.

Some are lightheadedness, pain in joints, trouble breathing

The book " The Last Dive", the author recounts his own incident in detail, including loss of hearing and sight.

DCS is typically slower in coming on than AGE.Severe cases of DCS (such as experienced by the Rouses and BC) can result in a rapid onset of symptoms, but typical hits seem to be a gradual progression of symptoms.

It hits different people differently. And it may hit the same person differently time-to-time.
