I lost my mask last year and replaced it with a mask that has amber lenses. It works great in the green water low viz inshore diving I do off Morehead City, NC.

I already have some dives further offshore scheduled for this spring, where the viz is good and the water blue.

I am wondering if I should get a clear lensed mask for those. I used the amber mask on the U352 last summer, 80' blue water viz, and it seemed ok.

Really depends on what kind of diving you plan to do. If you want to see all the colors nicely, especially fish and such, yes, get a clear lens.

I personally have both types of mask. I use the amber for fresh water/murky diving as it helps bring out definition. I use the clear for blue water diving.

A few reviews here have suggested the opposite.

It was OK for very shallow warm water diving but useless for low vis, dark green water where the effect was just like wearing sunglasses further reducing ambient light.
