I'm about to take a Heartsaver CPR class from the American Heart Association -- is that a "sanctioned" CPR course so I don't need to take EFR for Resue Diver? Is there an official list of the PADI sanctioned CPR courses?

don't forget First Aid when I went to Redcross CPR/AED class that is just what it was no first aid. Now I am stuck searching for first aid only.

I dunno, but check with your PADI instructor. They may be able to provide the CPR course as well. A friend of mine is a NAUI instructor & is also certified to teach both CPR & first aid as pre-requisites for Rescue.

My instructor (PADI) taught Primary Care ... CPR/AED/O2 http://www.emergencyfirstresponse.com/english/html/primarycare.asp

and Secondary Care ... First Aid http://www.emergencyfirstresponse.com/english/html/secondarycare.asp
for the rescue class

Hmmm, from the PADI website on Rescue EFR requirements ... "Successful completion of a sanctioned CPR program within the past 24 months." ... http://www.padi.com/english/common/courses/rec/continue/rescue.asp

Edit: looks like you will need First Aid to fulfill the requirements (Don :) ) might as well go with your instructor like I did, even did the full DAN O2 course too

The AHA will suffice for the cpr requirement. You will still need a basic first aid course also. You may find it cheaper to take EFR from your PADI instructor which will include all the requirements for Rescue.

Yes, AHA CPR is a sanctioned course. You will need First Aid, too. Call your local Red Cross chapter to see when you can get into a course there. It's a 3 hour course and usually runs about $40-50.

Unless you have a company that wants to have Certified CPR/EAD/First Aid people in the building. Then they may pay for it. I was lucky, my company likes to have people with that class done.

::Edit::
There may be new updates to everyones CPR classes comming. Emphasizing Chest compressions not Breaths.

http://www.nytimes.com/2007/03/17/health/17cpr.html?_r=1&ref=health&pagewanted=print&oref=slogin

Any CPR effort improved survival odds. But 22 percent of those who received just chest compressions survived with good neurological function compared with only 10 percent of those who received combination CPR.

The updates should already be in use 30:2 - I find it interesting that this came about a year ago and its still getting attention as if its new. I've had my instructor materials since June with the updates. :)

The new one says No breaths, Just compressions is fine. It also says that they may not update the Classes except to say, it is fine without the breaths.

. . .some experts advised dropping the mouth-to-mouth part of CPR altogether.
