I'm sure this has been answered a dozen times, but I'm having trouble with the search term ...

Being land locked in Central Texas, I've only been in fresh water since certifying. I finally have a chance to hit the breakwater in Monterey Bay in a few weeks. I'm wearing 22 lbs of lead with a Bare XCD2 drysuit and T100 thinsulate undergarment.

Based on what I've been able to find so far, I expect to have to add about 5 lbs to make the move to salt water (2.5 lbs per 100 lbs of body weight).

Are my expectations reasonable?

Everything else stays the same -- same drysuit, BCD, tank type/size?

If Yes, you add that 1/40 for your total land weight. A tank is about 40 lb full, more or less, so you add one pound for it. Then, if you plus your lead and gear weigh 200, you would add 5 lb, a net gain of 6.

(the 1/40 is correct, just that you add it to total mass, not just body mass)
