hi
im currently putting together doubles out of my twin faber 117s. but i was thinking about pairing some AL80s as well so that i had two sets of doubles without spending too much ... am i wasting my time ? should i just hold out for a great deal here on 100 steels or similar?
thanks for your experiences and opinions.

Well, what kinds of dives are you doing? How much gas do you need?
What makes you think they are a waste of time? It’s double the air of a single 80 and it depends on what you're going to do with them. I’m not sure what they’re using now but the Navy used twin 90’s for a lot of years and they worked a bit to well.
I've got a couple double 80s in addition to the doubled 130s. I like the 80s for our quarry diving and shallow water dives. They are much easier on my old back.
Doubling 80s is never a waste of time. I had a set about 7 years ago and thought that they sucked so I sold them. About 2 years ago I realized the error of my ways and got another set. They are a great rig for just screwing around in and for Mexican caves. Plus you can always break 80s down and use them for deco or stage tanks.
For cold salt water, just add a v-weight. Sure, they're a bit heavy on land, but they trim nicely and are CHEAP. As Brian wrote, they can also be broken down for stage/deco bottles later.
