Key Largo...Fly to Ft. Lauderdale or Miami and drive in....Warm water, great viz, killer wrecks and nice lush reefs! (not to mention the Fish House and Mrs. Mac's Kitchen)
My wife and I have become quite enamored with St. Croix. What a great and unknown dive destination. We've been to the other Virgins (including the BVIs) and like them.....well except for St. Thomas, but the diving and just about everything was better on St. Croix. Wish we'd known about it before. We've now been there three times in the past two years. The shop we used, SCUBA even has a travel page on their website. It's an easy flight from Tampa, where we live but using their site we saved quite a bit over booking with American directly. I just looked at 5 days from Philadelphia in late July and you can do it for around $600 each then just add your diving in. We've stayed at three different places there and love Sand Castle hotel. It's very laid back, on a beautiful beach with good snorkeling, and the dive boat is right at the hotel. I think they just added the boat there in the past year as they weren't diving there when we first went. The dive shop is St. Croix Ultimate Bluewater Adventures which is a great new way of spelling out SCUBA. If you like that you'll their dog who's name is SCUBA. I don't remember what it stood for but it was latin and translated to something like a dog being man's best friend.
Thanks to all who replied. I'm going to look into Coz as my 1st choice.
Good choice. If you're so inclined you can get in up to 5 dives in a day. The fifth dive being a night dive. There are no limitations with the people we dive with.

I love the Keys and they are my cheep quick dive trip. HOWEVER I don't find much in the way of beaches in the keys so your wife may not like it very well.
The last good beach is on an island south of Miami. Will have to look at a map if you are interested.
On my last trip I even visited John Penecamp park and found its beaches were so-so. More coves no waves.
The keys all the way to Key West have so-so beaches. Which is a shame.
One option is south Florida around W Palm. My local dive shop does this trip every year. I have yet to go on it so I can't say but since it is in the US will be cheeper and easy to pull off.
when I dove to cozumel, my girlfriend didn't want to come with me even in the boat. this year she returned went back to cozumel, and at the airport upon picking her up, she slapped me with a padi beginners certification.
and oh before i forget, we stayed in cozumel, at the park royal. great place, nice size pool over looking at the ocean, and another lazy pool which is about 3 ft deep. even my son loved it.
Allow me to self-promote and recommend that you check out our Scuba and Yoga Adventure. It's not during your time frame, but it's something I hope you look into for a future trip--my wife and I spent a lot of time planning something that would be fun for couples when one of them is a non-diver. Even if you've never done yoga, you'll both have a blast.
