I had the laser eye surgery, which caused me to be less able to see up close under water, though I could see perfectly up close to read the gauges when still nearsighted. I'm 54, and of course, need reading glasses topside. Tried the stick ons, but I lost 2 of them--not reliable. I can read all my gauges enough to know the important stuff (depth, time, etc.), but to see the temperature gauge, I mark on it where 50 degrees is. The flip-shades idea is an interesting concept, but I would think you would have to have it set up with the prescription flip-ups inside your mask, as they would not work without air around them. This would make for a complicated mask configuration, and perhaps cost a fortune until it would catch on?
