I got up early on Mother's Day, kiss my wife goodbye and went diving. I arrived back home about 3 PM. She looked pissed. I said "Honey, I know that I ruined your special day! So to make it up to you, when Father's Day comes, I'll go diving again." She could see the logic in this? What am I doing wrong?

You did nothing wrong... But, you should have figured out a way to make her feel special on that day... even if it was something as simple as a heart felt card or a bouquet of flowers that were very special to her from you . People are simple that way... if she went diving on your birthday but came home with your favorite pizza just before kick-off....

Nothing,
I mean you did nothing right.
Mothers’ Day comes once a year.
If you live in our area, diving comes about 25 times a year.

something special for her to do, while you did your thing

Suggestions

- spa services or massage
- expensive brunch
- trip to a casino
- weekend trip to visit a friend or relative

you get the idea, just let her know you are thinking of her, not just yourself.
