Let me start by saying that I hope this thread is OK - Ladydiver asked that trip posting be cleared by her first - I PM'd her yesterday but have not received a response. I can't wait to post this so please, be gentle.
Anyhow - my husband & I are desperately trying to get up to dive Isle Royale in August, but are having trouble with the dates. As of now, they have openings August 16-19 but don't want to go with just 2 divers. I understand that if 2 more people sign up, they'll do it. I believe that a 6 pack is the maximum.
This is a liveaboard cold-water dive boat that does Isle Royale in Lake Superior. The trip is 4 days. You arrive the night before and board the boat the AM of the 16th. They feed you, beverages are pretty much BYO. Then you get to dive some of the coolest cold-water wrecks around!
A little background- Isle Royale is the mecca of Great Lakes diving. Wilderness area including moose and wolves, many many cool intact wrecks that start as shallow as 10 feet and become tech dives as you go deeper!
Dry suits are HIGHLY recommended and they won't let ya on the boat unless you have the proper sort of reg, etc. So be forewarned about that... please read the website for complete info...
Here's a couple links about the dive op and the wrecks -
Some of my buddies did this trip with RLT in June. From what I understand it is an outstanding trip with great diving, great scenery, and great food! I will be going on the same trip on Labor day weekend. Can't wait!
Update - not that anyone has shown much interest, but just in case...
THIS TRIP IS DEFINATELY ON!!!!!
There is still room for a couple more people if anyone is interested. My husband and myself are going, as are a couple divers from Black River Falls (Marineland Dive Shop).
There is still room! Come on and join us!
This truly is some of the absolute BEST WRECK DIVING that the Great Lakes has to offer.
Yes, thanks, we're doing it dry! Although hopefully the waters may have warmed up a bit since June... maybe we'll see temps in the 40's instead of the 30's.... heatwave!
