    SCUBA and Amateur Radio

I'm wondering if any of the divers here have amateur radio operating licenses, and if they're at all useful in SCUBA. I've been carrying my 2m hand-held to dive sites in case something happens and there's no cell coverage, but so far I haven't been in a place with no cell coverage but where I can still hit a repeater. Does anyone else carry a radio for emergencies, and if so, which bands do you use?

I carry my VX-170 2m HT with me in my diving pelican case. However all my dive locations are in places with cell service and 2m repeaters.

A diving couple I know carry a hf radio on their dive boat to check email and chat to people back home with while they are out in the gulf.

Turns out there are quite a few hams here: Any amateur radio people here?
