I am not sure since I'm a new diver but, I was watching the iMax movie, The Living Sea. And when they went down to 300+ they, they changed their tanks to these kind from Youtube clip. So, they might be special tanks & breathing system for deep see diving!?

Nemrod, do you have a photo of their 3 tank config without the shell? Do they use a BP/W under that as well?

Ryan Spence has a huge collection of Cousteau information, equipment and even exact copies from the gear loaned to him from the Cousteau museum.

There is no back plate, the fairing acts as the plate, a plate would be redundant.

There have been several variations of the Cousteau rigs including I think two "civilian" versions sold by U.S. Divers. They are not plumbed like you think, the manifold is between the tanks and is a tube, in fact some of the units had quad tanks. The regulator attach point was integrated into the faring on the store bought version, perhaps Ryan will contribute some information.

I think SeaRat also has one of his own. I was offered a couple but failed to follow through a few years back. I have dived the UDS years ago, pretty neat.

I have some pics myself somewhere but right now I haven't a clue which computer I have them on.

The shell splits, the top lifts off, the older versions had no BC function like the blue ones in the video clip appeared to have.

Thanks for the links. That is some pretty neat stuff. I must say I never realized that Steve Zissou from Life Aquatic was diving with actual vintage stuff, including the rabbit ears.

I haven't talked to Ken from OTWS in a while, but he used to have a set of this
