In an effort to understand the Scuba Diving Community please answer the following two questions. I will post a follow-up once collected info is compiled. Thank you for your feedback and opinion.
1. What is it about the Scuba Diving Community that bugs you? or you dislike?
2. What is it that bugs you about any Scuba Diving Shop?
You can make your answers public or private to me.
Bugs me? Those divers who refuse to take seasick pills and then puke up and lay around the boat all day, moaning in agony. LDS's? Don't deal with them concerning purchases. I buy everything online. Otherwise I've had mostly a happy experience with the operators who I have dove with.
1. Divers that make posts like the following, thinking that their belief is the only one that's valid, and the rest of us are the ignorant ones:
For all those that even can spell enviornmental consciousness. Can we try a new word called respect and stewardship?
Nothing and no place is sacrid which is shameful and hedious. Why can't there be no take and no fishing or spearing zones? The worlds fishing resourses are already stressed and it's OVERFISHING that predominately ruins the coral environment.
It's all a CHOICE. Choice is a diving style. There are many things to do other than fish, trap or spear. How about treasure hunting, shell collecting (dead ones) and pulling the trigger of a camera instead of a gun?
I once was a spear fisher and gave it up after one of my big mutton snappers was pregnant with roe. If no one has noticed the population of Florida lobsters is not what it was just even 10 years ago.
It is up to every person on the planet to exercise good judgment and wisdom.
However, those are two words that no one knows or cares about the meaning of anymore until the day the resources are all GONE!
2. Dive shops that think they know what I want more than I do, or that I'm stupid and need to be enlightened.
1. What is it about the Scuba Diving Community that bugs you? or you dislike?
I dislike their lack of consideration for others, though this is a reflection of our society in general, but people appear to behave just like when they're driving. Cutting people off underwater, kicking silt up unnecessarily, touching aquatic life, ignoring pre-dive instructions, and generally being selfish creatures.
2. What is it that bugs you about any Scuba Diving Shop?
Their tendency to inquire where I bought a piece of equipment.
Where I buy my gear is my business and I will continue to buy my gear where, when, and for how much I wish without any feelings of guilt, remorse, or regret. Dive shop owners have no business inquiring, or caring, where a piece of equipment was bought. They should smile, STFU, and be happy they have business standing in their shop.
If all their gear is 30-50% more expensive, and these number are typical, I will simply buy online and be happy about it. I'll consider paying maybe 15% more for a local business, but not ones whose customer service is worse than the DMV.
1. What is it about the Scuba Diving Community that bugs you? or you dislike?
My experience with the community at large has been very positive. One thing that does bug me is when large groups travel together sometimes there seems to be a tendency for them to be Loud, Pushy and want to take things over. There is strength in numbers.
2. What is it that bugs you about any Scuba Diving Shop?
Again my experience has been mostly positive. A word of advice to LDS, do what say, and deliver when you said you would deliver. If you tell me one week to service my regs, don't make me wait four.
