I just don't log dives
I blow, it becomes turgid and rises, then soon it falls flat lying flacid on the surface
until I blow again. Is my sausage too old to stay erect?

OK I have your attention :shocked2:. Run with it. :D:rofl3:

However setting all double entendres aside for a brief moment, on a more serious note, what is the longevity of the average SMB? How often should they be replaced? Although I always have one with me, I rarely need to deploy it
since I'm pulling a float or in a group following a float.

They wear out ... as all sausages do, eventually ... :depressed:

that's what I hear.....

Slow leaks are a big problem when your sausage gets old, but not unusual. :depressed:

I just wanted to stress the importance of getting a good quality and sturdy sausage. I've seen too many dive site bottoms littered with old discarded sausages (and ones that were blown too hard and became separated from their owners).

Yes and you'll want a big sausage so it can be easily found. Size really matters when it comes to sausages.

Mine is much larger than average--in fact, it might be too big for its usual application, but my dive buddy and I have learned to make it work. Frequent practice deploying it is the key.

Lucky you, mine is much smaller than average and people make fun of it. :( Sometimes my buddy has helped me deploy it but generally I'm on my own when it comes to that.

Most people don't unroll and clean the SMB after diving. They also need to be dried completely before re-rolling.

But yes, they can wear out but many times it' just a dirty valve(s).
