Well got all my new gear wet last night, overhead environment and all, it was at the YMCA pool (hey the place had a roof, isn't that overhead? ;-0). The gear was great, comfortable and functional. Completely satisfied with the choices made. Thanks for all the input from the board.
Skills: Would have been fine if my DM was a little better. It was distracting having to watch her hoover perfectly still 4" off the bottom for what seemed like forever while I was "diving" - you know up, down, backwards, upside down. Then that froggy thingy with the kicks, All I can say is WOW she would have made a frog jealous, talk about perfect form. It was no match for my ehhhhh variety of kicks, I'm sure she was impressed with. All the flawless OOA examples she performed. etc, etc, etc.
Needless to say it went great I learned a lot, like......that I have a lot more to learn. By the end of the night I was much better than the beginning and very satisfeid with the session. Can't wait for another one.
I think that you are a good diver, if you can say that about EVERY dive. I can say without question that I learn something on every dive. I have had some dives in poor conditions, cold or poor vis, but have never had a bad dive. I have had dives where my bouyancy controls weren't great, and I learned something about bouyancy. I have dived in lots of surge, and leaned something about how to deal better with surge. I have dives where I use a LOT of air, and came out with a better understanding of how to use a bit less air. I have come out of a dive with water in my drysuit and learned to be more careful about rigging the seals on my suit. If you can keep this mindset, that you will learn something on each dive, you can quickly become a good diver.
Good luck with the rest of the sessions, keep practicing!
