Ned DeLoach's Diving Guide to Underwater Florida.
Indispensable. Great attention to the springs available, with great maps and advice on logistics, etc. This book is mentioned a lot down here in the Southeast and has a deserved following.

    Unhappy The Last Dive

I just finished "The Last Dive" by Bernie Chowdhury. It's a true story about a father and son's fatal dive on the U-869 off NJ. Takes you through their dive training right to their last dive, and then some. A book is about divers, written by a diver. Some very graph descriptions of severe DCS, one which was suffered by the author. It was very hard to put the book down. A must in reading.

    Bill,
Thank you for reminding about that book. We saw it maybe a year ago at the library and checked it out. GREAT reading. It had been on my buy list but I lost the little piece of paper that I had the info on. Time to check Amazon.com

    Be safe,
    Mike

When we (husband and I ) first got interested in diving we bought "the last dive". It just sounded interesting. We thought it was great.. a good story and lots of good dive info.

When we then took our PADI OW course, we were amazed at how much information we DID'nt get from them. When we asked our instructors questions (just wanting more info) they were not happy with us. :jpshakehe They thought we wanted TOO much info, that we would confuse the others ( who I guess knew nothing about diving), would scare them or I don't know what.... sigh...

But we thought it was a great book with alot of good information that made us want to dive even more, while at the same time giving us respect for the sport and the potential dangers. Great book, even for a newbie!

What a perfectly horrible attitude! I hope you'll look elsewhere for additional training.
