SBers,

In a 12 month span of time I lost two cameras; one due to flooding and one when the lanyard broke in rough seas. This got me thinking about dive gear insurance. I am starting to accumulate quite the collection and I want the best possible protection and replacement insurance I an get.

I have been looking into DAN’s affiliated Dive Gear insurance offered to US residents through Senn-Dunn-Marsh-Roland. They claim their coverage includes dive equipment, cameras, housings, lenses and strobes. Other statements on their website includes:
  • Includes water damage (flood coverage) on all items.
  • Immediate binding coverage upon completion of the online enrollment.
  • We do not replace your equipment: we provide the replacement funds.
  • A+ rated insurance carrier.
  • Worldwide coverage territory.

What has your experience(s) been with this insurance? Do you feel it was a good value/insurance policy? What is the “fine print” exclusions or stipulations? Would you buy it or renew again or would you look elsewhere for better insurance.

Interested in seeing what others have to say...thanks,

Looks like most are in favor of DAN's Equipment Insurance by the first day's poll results...would like to read any reviews that others might have of it.

Be careful and read the fine print. There are some weird policies around lost gear. I lost some gear and could not get the cost recovered. If I remember correctly, it cannot be in your possession when it is lost (or something equally stupid).

That's probably a different class of insurance.

If you lose it by misplacing it, dropping it, etc. those might be considered your fault.

If you lose it due to equipment failure (housing, straps, etc. ) those are more warranty issues.

If you lose it due to theft, that's also different.

Any kind of comprehensive anything goes insurance would be pricey.

I have no need for DAN gear insurance. My regular gear is already covered by my home owners insurance at no extra cost. My camera gear is covered on my home owners insurance by a special rider.
