I dived in Cuba many times. On the positive side, reefs and fish are beautiful, people are even more beautiful and it's so much cheaper to dive in Cuba as opposed to diving anywhere else. On the negative side, the people are poor and although the equipment is the same gear that we buy in Canada or US, it is not as well maintained just simply because they don't have the money to do preventative maintenance so best to bring your own gear. I have witnessed a few equipment problems when diving in Cuba that would not normally happen elsewhere but what the hell, the Cubans are also amazing at fixing anything with nothing. The DM's that I dive with in Holguin are competent, professional and a lot of fun. Many Americans go diving in Cuba, but they must leave from an airport that is outside of the US. Some Americans fly to Canada or the Bahamas to get to Cuba. Beautiful country to discover.

I also hope that your gov't will one day get over it. It's a beautiful country and the people are even more beautiful.

Bring your own gear. Cubans can't afford to do much preventative maintenance. I have witnessed some serious equipment failures.
