    Help Needed from Dive Professionals

    Attention Dive Professionals:

I've been asked to help in gathering some information regarding dive professionals and incidents resulting in injuries. I do not need names or personal info, just statistics. If you choose to participate but would rather not post, you can PM me with the relevant info.

Here's what they are looking for:

    1) Agency: PADI/NAUI/IANTD etc.

    2) Level: DM, Instructor, Course Director, etc.

    3) Number of years diving:

    4) Number of years as a professional:

    5) Number of incidents resulting in injury to yourself (non pro level)

    6) Number of incidents resulting in injury to yourself or charges (pro level)

I'm interested in moderate to serious injuries occuring while in the water (i.e. requiring medical attention). Please use good judgement on qualifying incidents when answering.

I posted this under the Basic Discussions rather than I2I to give those who aren't a part of that forum a chance to participate. I'd appreciate keeping this on topic with responses from Dive Professionals only as much as possible to make it easier for me to collect the data. Please remember, I'm not asking for details just statistics.

Thanks for everyone's participation and co-operation.

I'm not a dive professional, but would be interested in who asked you...

For example, if DAN asked, it might be different than if the info is being requested by a plaintiff's attorney.

Would you be willing to summarize the results here at some point?

My only comment is that the statistic should include number of dives ... or bottom time logged ... or some way to measure the actual experience of the diver. Number of years diving isn't really a meaningful measure of either experience or incident statistic since the number of dives per year could vary from a few to a few hundred.
