    PADI Standards wanted

Is there a place I can download the training standards for PADI courses?. In the SSI site they have their standards published in pdf format, but I can´t find a similar document in the PADI site... Thanks...

Really?? No wonder why PADI is known for the "put your bucks and will get you diving" philosophy. Training Standards should be available for anyone who wishes to attend a SCUBA class, so you´ll know what you´re supposed to be taught.

xagudo, ask any PADI instructor in your neighborhood. Lord knows they have shops everywhere. I am sure they would be delighted to help you find what you are looking for.

Download the SSI standards. They are very CLOSE to the same. Both are governed by the RSTC as to the minimums.

No ,there´s no way to get the PADI standards over the web. You have to ask your instructor if he lets you get a copy out of his instructor manual. You can get the SSI and the RSDT standards on the web though... good luck

    Mike,
I would like to give anyone who wants them a list of PADI standards. The problem is they are all over the manual: academic standards consist of 10 pages of questions, the water standards are also not in one place. I just got off the phone with PADI and they told me there is no problem with copyright infringement if you want to copy pages of the instructor manual to give to students.

That's not what the standards provide - at least not SSI's. The standards cover things like, How old do you have to be for course X? How many students per instructor in the water? etc.

They DO NOT cover what you are supposed to be taught - that's in the manual. Here's item #1 from the SSI Standards for OW

    1. The knowledge factors and skills to be covered in
the Open Water course, including the Junior Open
Water Diver, are those provided in the SSI Open
Water Instructor Manual and the SSI Open Water
    Diver materials.

So you would need the Instructor manual and OW manual to know what you are supposed to be taught. Neither SSI (nor any angency, I believe) makes their instuctor manual available online. I also don't know of any who would knowingly provide an instructor's manual to a student.
