I have the Aqualung Titan LX Supreme. I don't know how it compares to the MK25, but I love it. It's put up with a lot of abuse and a lot of dives. It breathes just as easy at 120 feet as it does at 15ft. I haven't had a single problem with it... which helps keep my life easy.
The only thing I would change if I were to buy it now is to not get the low profile octo, and opt for a balanced octo instead (although, now there's the Egress LPO which is balanced....) but otherwise I'm very happy with my set-up.
Can you recommend an octo? I assume it doesn't matter if the octo is the same brand as the regulator...??
The Aqualung low profile octo is a good one because of its small size. Personally, I use a Sherwood standard octo for it's rugged design. It doesn't breath as smoothly as my primary M1, but I know it's reliable. The added advantage of both octos is that they're cheap - no sense spending a fortune on an octo if you're not going to be using it.
As for your initial question, both regs are good. Unless you're planning on getting into tec diving, I'd recommend the Titan LX Supreme. It breathes just as well through the recreational range, and it's quite a bit less expensive.

I switched to 6 of the Legend LX Supremes and 2 of the Titan LX this past year. The both are OUTSTANDING.
The Titan 1st stage is a nice compact turbo assisted balanced diaphram regulator which makes automatic IP adjustments as you go deeper, allowing the 2nd stage to get a nice consistent gas supply which makes it breathe easier.
The Titan LX Supreme is the cold water version which is one of the few regs today that meets the very stringent cold water specifications for CE rating.
I dive Aqualung myself, and have a couple of Titan LX regs. They're excellent, and have been serving me solid for a long time. I also dive Legend LX Supreme, which is also an excellent reg.
As for alternative air source? Why go for anything other than the same as you use for your primary? On my Titan LX-reg, I have as primary a Titan LX and as secondary, a Titan LX (I think that they even come in yellow too, should you want it). On my Legend LX supreme reg, I have Legend LX supreme as both primary and secondary.
I think of it this way: if I ever need my secondary (i.e. if someone/thing yanks the primary out of my mouth), having the secondary be the same as the primary can only be an advantage in that it feels the same, breathes the same, looks the same as the primary -- one less thing to complicate/stress a situation. Also, keeping parts around to service the regs is easier when they're the all/both the same.
If I was buying today I'd go with either one. They both have their advantages and disadvantages but they are excellent regs. As for an octo, I like the Low Profile Octopus. It has no upside down and breathes good enough to get the job done.
A timely question since I'm getting ready for buying my first reg.
A followup question I have is, the LX is not sealed and the LX Supreme is. If you are going to dive salt water, isn't it better to have a environmentally sealed one, so you have less to mess with cleaning? The LDS recommended the LX and said the LX Sup was overkill. I was thinking about it for fresh and salt water.
