Book Question: "Diving Guide to Underwater Florida"

I've got the "Diving Guide to Underwater Florida" by Ned DeLoach (I think 10th edition, published Sept 2000).

I notice that there is a new edition published (11th edition I think) October 2004.

So is there anyone out there who has "both" editons?
Is it worth ordering a new copy of this?
    (how much has changed?)

    Thanks for any insight.

    -Mike

I can't help much since I only have the 11th edition (ISBN: 1878348396) after I gave away the 10th edition to a friend. The covers are identical except for the edition number. My impression is that some of the pricing, contact, etc. information may be updated in the newer edition.

PM me if you have a few specific sites in mind and I'll cross reference it against what's in my book, that should determine if the changes are that significant.

You may want to check your library to see if they have an older copy so you can compare. We got a copy from ours to do the same thing and there were only a few differences. some dive sites omitted, some added.

I was under the impression that the new edition had a jewfish on the cover, while the previous edition has a shot from Ginnie springs?

My LDS has the new edition now and I've glanced through it, didn't go through the entire thing, but it seemed the same to me. I'm sure something has changed to warrant a new edition though...

That's what I thought. If you scroll to the top of this thread and click on the URL it'll show you a pic of the new cover, which the Jewfish.

    I have the 11th edition.

I have zero clue what differences there are between this addition and the last, but if you have specific questions about what is in the 11th edition, feel free to ask.

The book is great (regardless of edition.). The only negative I've heard is that some of the GPS points (especially around Tampa) are not correct. But you can always research those online before your trip.

My question was the "new edition" worth buying if I have the last one? (meaning has it changed enough to buy a new one). It wasn't as the LDS today, so I'm going to check the local bookstore soon, but they typically don't stock it as I don't live in the diving meca of the world.

IMO sure, it's worth having, assuming you want to dive FL.

The 11th edition does differ a bit, have the 10th as well and there are a few extra dive sites added per section.....worth buying a new one if you already have an old one - you be the judge....if you want to have the latest version and don't mind spending the $20 for then by all means it's worth it
