Just returned from 10 days at FIBR. Dove Prince Albert, John's Spot, French Key Bank(2),French Cay Wall, Mary's Place(2),Mr. Bud,Gold Chaen Reef(2),Doc's Dive, Valley of the Kings(2)Iron Shore, Ankas Reef, Pirates Point, Connie's Dream, Missing Link, Inside/Outside Reef,Calvin's Crack, Newman's Wall, Carib Point and Wonderful Reef. Wind was up a bit Saturday thru Monday with seas 2-4, but diving was good, wind died some Monday and seas down 2-3 thru Wed. Wed. night wind totally lulled and Thursday was "flat". By Friday morning seas up again 2-4 and on Saturday really blowing and seas looked to be 3-5 range.
Vis ranged from a high of around 80' on Gold Chaen Reef (7/15) to a low of around 45' at Valley of the Kings on 7/16..average vis was generally around 60' on the majority of the dives.
There are now armed patrols of the reef by uniformed officers with the marine sanctuary. Hopefully this will restore the marine life, as we did find some change in quantity of life we saw. Lobster and crab numbers appeared to be down as we saw the number all week we used to see each dive.
The weather was generally good, the diving was definitely great, and the accomodations at FIBR and the staff were great. Once again we had a wonderful trip and we will be returning to Roatan.
