EEK What's up with Fantasy Island

We are headed back to FI next month for the 5th time. I am getting concerned because I keep reading bad reviews. Has anyone been there this year and have a report.

Has anyone gone to FI lately? I saw one thread, but would like input from others, especially those who have traveled there more than once. We are going next month for the 5 time and I have been reading very poor reports. We have always been happy there and I would like to know if it has gone down hill. Thanks BonnieBoo

    There are indeed many reports.

Understand that many people use the internet to post dissatisfaction, many more than use it to post glowing reports.

Even given that obvious internet caveat, Fantasy Island comes out looking like a great value for the dollar. If you consider it in terms of value, you will have picked the right place.

Due to unusual management structure combined with years of flip-flop ownership and direction, quite often the obvious comes to the surface. It is, if nothing else, a bit erratic and unpredictable in terms of boats, rental equipment, food, and room standards. Fantasy Island always rates highly in terms of Dive Master Staff, and with good reason.

I had the airfare and do not have to send check for FI until today. Just worried about the reports. I talked to someone that has been there many times and said the same (all is well). I agree that many people respond in the neg.. also I think many want 5 star and pay 3 star. All I care about is that the diving is good and the room is clean. Same dive staff and now I understand new boats. What could be wrong! I understand there is a new building that is better than the old. Not sure where this would be located and their site does not seem to show anything new. B

Yes I have read all the reports that was why I questioned the chance in quality!

If you have been to FIBR before, then you know exactly what to expect...it's still the same place. The dive staff is still the same (some minor changes) and the resort is still the same.

There is not a "new" section. The newer wing (which was there on your last trip) is the one to your left as you drive into the resort. Request a room in this area and you're much less likely to have problems. If you do encounter problems, go to the front desk and request a room change, or to avoid problems you can go and check out the room before you check in to make sure it is what you want.

The overbooking thing is about the only negative thing I have read . Indeed it is good value if you do not expect 5 star .

Thanks, overbooking has been my experience on at least two occasions. I send an email now a few days ahead. I am arriving 1 day later than dive groups so this may be a problem this time. We are staying 2 weeks so maybe we will luck out. Anyone tried the plane ride?
