    CCV during January---anyone going there.

I'm thinking of heading to CCV solo during the week of the 14-21 of January. Anyone else heading that way during that week? Any body have any opinions about going solo to CCV and how easy will it be to find some dive buddies? I'm wanting to do this trip with out friends or family to hopefully meet new people, and see how well I can entertain myself. My alternate dates would be the 21-28. Thanks for any input.

My first trip to Cocoview was solo. I met a group of divers on the boat and I now join them every yr.(I'm now an official cocnut). It is pretty easy to find someone to join up with there. You will meet folks on the boat and see them at eavery meal. Just ask to join different groups for meals and make friends. It is easy. You are going to have a ball. Ask around to find people doing night dives on the walls or the prince albert so you can have a buddy doing that as well.
The race does not always go to the swift, nor the fight to the strong, but it's a good way to bet

CCV is like one big family....you won't have any problems meeting new friends...you will be assigned to one boat for the whole week so you will dive with the same people everyday...and usually you will be brought into the fold if you are by yourself so you won't worry about eating alone....unless of course you want to..a lot of divers gather around the bar in the evenings and everyone visits with each other.... if you don't know them you will before you leave....have fun

i spent 2 weeks in CCV this summer. first week was solo. i think i enjoyed it as much as when the rest of my dive group showed up for week 2. the divers on my boat were very friendly. going solo is a great way to work on your dive skills

Thanks for the replies, I'm waiting one more day before booking to make sure that I dont change my mind about where I want to go. Everything leads me to think that Coco View will be the best choice for me. I'll keep yall posted

I went with my family, but they don't dive; so I was practically solo. Met another solo diver, buddied-up; we dove together pretty much the whole time. Great experience. No sweat. Everyone is friendly. There was another trio where I could have buddied-in to become a quartet, but the other solo diver was more my personal style.

Enjoy! I wish I had more vacation time, and that some of my points could be used for airfare to Central America...

Midge, me and my wife will be there on Jan 7-14... Going solo should not be a problem especially off the boats... Shore dives, night dives, and early morning dives is another story but it is pretty easy to hook up with a group going out! I don't believe you will have much of a problem when ever you choose to go...

With that said, if you decide to come a week earlier, you will be more than welcome to join us diving, morning, noon, or night...!

My first two trips there this year were solo, and I managed to get in somewhere around 25 dives/week on each trip. There are always people going out for a shore or night dive, and I'm sure it wouldn't be an issue if you were to tag along.

As I've said before, CCV is like attending a big family reunion.
I would rather have a surprise happen-chance meeting with oceanic critters than pay to experience an orchestrated exploitation.

I booked for the 14-21st, I cant wait. Trying to decide if I should do the PADI rescue diver couse while i'm there. Whats the water temps during January? I dove with a 2/3 full in Kona at 78F for a week with a slight chill, but am thinking of diving a shorty on this trip. Or both.

Expect water temperatures in the 75-78F range (see the Doc's blog at roatanrag.blogspot.com and search the archives for previous January for some historical weather). If you were OK with a 3/2 full at 78F, you should be OK. Better to be slightly warm than slightly cold, in my opinion.

    Have a great trip!
