    Roatan - Cell Phone Carrier

Whenever I travel I try and purchase a local sim card to save $ on calls back to the USA. Does anyone know who the local cell phone carrier is? Has anyone else done this?

    thanks

Claro, Digicel or Tigo. There's a Claro store in French Harbour. I think you can buy them in the West End somewhere - maybe Paradise Computers? There was a sign on the wall in the airport but I didn't see a kiosk or anything. Thread about it: cell phone coverage

I used one of these in Roatan a few years ago but they're awkward as it's one of those 30 sec. callback cards. http://www.telestial.com/view_product.php?ID=MSIM-PPP2 My buddy has AT&T International and we were able to keep in touch all over the island.

Quite a few resorts/restaurants etc. have WiFi if you use Skype.

Claro bought Digicel so you can now choose only between Tigo and Claro. You can buy Tigo chips (maybe even Claro as well) at Captain Van's in West Bay (and maybe in their West End store as well). You may be asked to provide some ID. The chip will probably be under $10. You will need to buy minutes as well.

There is claro and tigo in the FH mall, there is no longer Paradise Computers so forget that idea, Vans may have them if your heading to West Bay it may be worth a look,
