I went to FI by myself and had a great time. I met lots of really
nice people from all over. I did not notice all
of the problems that other reviewrs had listed. Please below for
some information
The food was OK, I had no problem with that at all. You will have
to make reservations for dinner at breakfast or lunch. I ate at the
6:30 sitting for dinner as I was usually tired from the diving and
could not stay up for the 8:30 sitting.
The room was good. Yes, they are older, but the maid service was
good and they kept the room clean, plenty of towels. It is easy
getting beach towels at the front desk. Drink service was slow, but
I had already heard about that. I did give a $1.00 tip when I got
something. They remembered you and it helped with service. The
same in the dining room.
The diving was good. I was on "Little Tavita" with Miguel
(divemaster) and Moses (captain). I have no complaints about the
dive operation at all. We saw 2 sea-horses, and lots of other
little stuff. Nothing big, but I had already heard about that too.
I thought the beach was clean, I also checked out the pool and that
looked good too. Befor I left, I had asked a pharmacist about bug
repellant, and she suggested I take lots of vitamine B before I go
and after I get there. I did and did not get bit much at all. And
when I did, they did not itch. I did not use bug spray hardly at
all. I guess I was pretty lucky I mostly used bug spray in the
morning when I was going to the gazebo to get photos of the sunrise,
then I sprayed my ankles.
I also snorkeled over to CoCo View, they have good snorkeling
there. It is a nice wall, and I say a couple of squid hanging out.
It is pretty close and a short snorkel there. You have to be
careful because you cross the boat lane, just make sure there are
none coming. They also have a Web Cam and I told my friends I would
be there at a specific time so they were able to see me while I was
on vacation. It was pretty cool.
I did stay on the resort for the whole trip. I was there only for a
week and wanted to do a lot of diving, so I cannot comment on the
rest of the the island of Roatan. But I would go back there again.
One thing I did was I looked on balcony when I first got there. I
had a 2nd floor room, and there was no view from the balcony, so I
went back to the front desk and requested my room be changed, and
they did that for me right away. I was then on the beach front on
the ground floor. Much Better. My bag was also delayed by 1 day
and was delivered right to the resort with no problem. The dive
center let me borrow their gear until I got mine.
It was a good trip. I will be retuning to the island again, but may
stay somewhere else to experience diving in a different part of the
island. That is the only reason I would stay somewhere else, I
would also stay at FI again.
I am thinking about going to Anthony's Key, or somewhere on the West end. But I will probably go to Cozumel before that, in October. Probably still many other places before I go back to Roatan.
joann,
you will have a ball in coz.
the diving is a little different, but you'll do fine.
do some research on this board for some ideas on ops and a place to stay.
you'll come up with a winning combination.
when you come home, post a trip report and tell everyone how much fun you had.
