Rolling my eyes Whale Sharks in Belize

Hi all!

Thinking of going to Belize in May '05, in hopes of catching a glimpse at a Whale Shark (or two. I've never done a live-abord vacation. Any suggestions on a moderately priced, great quality operation down there?

Thanks in advance!

the 5/14/05 Sun Dancer trip is a whale shark trip (doesn't qualify as moderately priced though)

Thread moved to a more appropriate forum.

The Scuba Diving Vacation & Destinations section has a forum dedicated to Central & South America. I have taken the liberty of moving your post here in hopes it will get a wider response.

For land based, can access whale sharks from Placencia, which I recommend because it's a such funky, laid back & reasonably priced little area, here's a feature trip report that I wrote for Undercurrent----> Behemoths in Belize--scheduled whale shark trips in Placencia http://www.undercurrent.org/UCnow/a...ize200006.shtml

Best regards.

DocVikingo: the link doesn't work. Would love to read what you wrote though, as I have been hankerin' to see a whale shark and thought I had to go to the west coast of Australia to do it...

I see you have been told about whale sharks and Western Australia! A web search will land you a bunch of links to check out.

I live and dive here (and have two dive centres here) and would be happy to answer any questions you have. Simply PM me

Or Utila - Bay Islands - Honduras
http://www.utiladivecentre.com/about...ale_sharks.htm
Or Cancun/Baja California
http://www.greywhale.com/whalshar.htm

Or Phuket (Thailand)

I'd still rather go to Ningaloo Reef though. It's on my all time top 10 list.

I'm going to post my reply here, but I'll PM you when I am looking at my next trip (I'm going to the Bahamas in 6 days, so planning a trip to Australia right now isn't happenin)...

Any and all information about whale shark dive experiences would be welcome to me. Maybe I should make a new thread? This has been my single biggest interest since I started diving. I'm getting my Shark Awareness cert in Nassau next week specifically because of my life long interest in these animals, the most interesting being the whale shark.

Has anyone done it? Where is the best and closest place to Rhode Island? Would I be better served going to Australia (since that is what I heard)? And if so, alcina, should I come see you? Wouldn't it be great to have someone I already talked to bring me on the dive...indeed.

You should put the thread in the location forum...so Australia questions can go there; Mexico questions there. I hear that Cozumel offers whale shark tours, too - you might want to stick it in there or contact Ramone via Blue Angel dive shop at Caribe Blu.
