Thinking of going to Belize in May '05, in hopes of catching a glimpse at a Whale Shark (or two. I've never done a live-abord vacation. Any suggestions on a moderately priced, great quality operation down there?

Thread moved to a more appropriate forum.
The Scuba Diving Vacation & Destinations section has a forum dedicated to Central & South America. I have taken the liberty of moving your post here in hopes it will get a wider response.
For land based, can access whale sharks from Placencia, which I recommend because it's a such funky, laid back & reasonably priced little area, here's a feature trip report that I wrote for Undercurrent----> Behemoths in Belize--scheduled whale shark trips in Placencia http://www.undercurrent.org/UCnow/a...ize200006.shtml
DocVikingo: the link doesn't work. Would love to read what you wrote though, as I have been hankerin' to see a whale shark and thought I had to go to the west coast of Australia to do it...

I'm going to post my reply here, but I'll PM you when I am looking at my next trip (I'm going to the Bahamas in 6 days, so planning a trip to Australia right now isn't happenin)...
Any and all information about whale shark dive experiences would be welcome to me. Maybe I should make a new thread? This has been my single biggest interest since I started diving. I'm getting my Shark Awareness cert in Nassau next week specifically because of my life long interest in these animals, the most interesting being the whale shark.
Has anyone done it? Where is the best and closest place to Rhode Island? Would I be better served going to Australia (since that is what I heard)? And if so, alcina, should I come see you? Wouldn't it be great to have someone I already talked to bring me on the dive...indeed.
You should put the thread in the location forum...so Australia questions can go there; Mexico questions there. I hear that Cozumel offers whale shark tours, too - you might want to stick it in there or contact Ramone via Blue Angel dive shop at Caribe Blu.
