Hello Steve! Peter wrote me a mail about tonight's get-together at Larry's. Will try and be there again. Looking forward to another great video of Peter's. See you all then!
The October 23rd trip is on. We just need to get numbers. It will be the first BKK Diver's outing. Two dives in Pattaya. For those interested please post. I will provide more info as things develop over the next few days.
A BKK Diver's night dive on the Hardeep is being looked into. A rare sort of dive indeed. I really hope we can pull this one off. Ideally, we want a Saturday or Sunday night with agreeable tides. Peter is looking into potential dates as this will be a separate outing. More details to follow but this will be strictly an AOW + experienced dive outing. Reels will be used to ensure the ascent line is easily found. Full protocols will be developed and followed to ensure an exciting and safe dive.
Watson is joining as well. Jon and a mate of mine will completing a Rescue Course on Oct 23. The night dive will have to wait until mid Nov. when the tides are in our favor. I think the Hardeep could work but let me check.
We will have a day trip on Oct 23rd. 3 dives, including one on the Hardeep. PM if you want to join as a roster has already been put together.
For a night dive on the Hardeep, our dive operator is setting very high requirements if we do move ahead as it poses potential high risk. Issues to consider include air management, NDL, depth, current and the fact that it would be done at night. Having experience with night dives, wrecks and the Hardeep in particular are some of the requirements we discussed. We should have a date and more details worked out after next weekend. A Saturday evening that lines up well for a 7pm dip is what we are trying to plan. For anyone thinking of joining, this is indeed an advance dive which requires very good planning. If it is possible to have you along Limbo, that would be fantastic. Your experience would be quite welcomed.
Will only be in PTY the weekend from 23rd onwards. Good luck with planning a Hardeep night dive, sounds exciting!
Can't join on the 23rd during the day, that's when we arrive. Have fun anyway!
The first BKK Dive outing had 7 divers. Although two are not actual members. The diving on the Hardeep was not exceptional as the vis was in the 7m range, but the current was pretty much a non factor. I believe everyone had a good time as it was fun to get a group together. Any attendees care to add their thoughts? We did get to see a very pretty blue spotted ray and had a bit of fun with an on going Rescue Course.
We further discussed the possibility of a night dive on the Hardeep with the dive operator we went out with. I am in full agreement that when considering the depth, and potential hazards this will have to be open only to divers with experience with both night dives and experience diving the Hardeep. At our next meeting we can discuss this a bit further.
Next Meeting:
Thursday November 12th, 7:30pm at Larry's Dive.
Agenda items to include:
Knots for Diving (any interest?)
Dive outing for all levels
Hardeep night dive
I read somewhere on the board of a knot club. This could be an interesting thing to try out. Scuba related of course. I can bring some proper line and do a bit on knots. Other items or suggestions?
Yes, the diving day was fun. Viz improved on the second dive due to the increased sunlight. Almost zero current.
Alex, Watson and I explored a lot of the wreck. Interesting to see the bits that have fallen off in the last year. She's collapsing rapidly. I wonder when she'll break into two or three pieces. Soon I think.
I do remember half-a-dozen nautical knots, including the hangman's noose, but always handy to learn some more.
