What are the Top 3 diving destinations? Opinions please :)

:goofy:

Good poll.
I would say from what I've read, and a bit from what I've experienced here's my list.
Great Barrier Reef
Bonaire
Cozumel
Red Sea
Yap
Palau
Oh no that's more then three!:nono:

Hi LoCz,

This cannot be answered without first knowing what you like. The best locations for wrecks are often not the same as for muck diving which are often not the same as for consistent & varied big animal encounters which are often not the same as for heavy kelp diving, not to warm vs cold water, technical vs recreational--well, you get the picture.

To obtain a useful response, you must provide information such as what type of diving you are seeking, your level of experience, live-aboard vs land-based, desires in topside diversions, how many days you have, budgetary considerations, and the like. The more detail you can provide in your inquiry, the more focused can be the response.

Now if you can answer these, I guarantee this board can give you some very good suggestions.

Best regards.

DocVikingo

I am just asking for your opinions on where your top 3 destinations are and why.

:goofy:

As for myself i would probably go for biological diversity...fish, mantas especially.

Hi LoCz,

Okay, got it, although my selections are of course bound by the same considerations discussed above.

1. For biological diversity - Wakatobi in the Tukang Besis (Indonesia)
2. For all-around underwater beauty - Fiji via live-aboard.
3. For the big pelagics - Galapagos via live-aboard.

Boy, it's hard to limit myself to just three.

Best regards.

Wow looks like youv been to some of the best places Doc :)

Iv always thought of Fiji as probably one of the best places to go. Dont suppose you saw charles Darwin at the galapogos did ya ?

:goofy:

My top three diving destinations would be:

Cocos for hammerheads
Thailand for whalesharks (Richelieu Rock)
Sipadan for everything

And we're on our way to Rangiroa (2nd time for me).

I agree, it was hard to limit yourself to just three. I didn't mention Galapagos and will probably regret it.

Hi LoCz,

No, didn't see Charles, but saw a tortoise that might have. They estimate that some of the oldest tortoises in the Galapagos may have been alive when he was about.

Pretty amazing, eh?

The Poor Knights Islands of New Zealand.Great diversity and a marine reserve.Fish and rays and morays and .........
By the way....3 times the above. The rest of the world should come down here and see.
Cheers Ears,
The gasman

1) Galapagos
2) Fiji
and I guess 3) is now.... New Zealand?!
Hey, Gasman, I lived there for a year as an exchange student (many moons ago) and have always wanted to go back. Now I have diving as an excuse! But, please tell me... can ya still get those awesome Fish and Chips wrapped in newspaper? And what is up with putting pineapple on pizza?!
Cheers and Ta! Casey
