Hello everyone. First I'd like to say thanks to everyone for all the great information on this site.
I've recently started doing dives to 160 fsw range with deco times from 10 to 17 minutes. With 20 and 10 foot stops to decompress.
Now from what I've been reading here, dive tables are way off, decompression wise. "Bending you by not doing the deep stops and treating you by extending your shallow stops." The computer I dive with is a COCHRAN, COMANDER NITROX. Is my computer doing the same thing? I believe it uses the HALDANE formula.
Also I want to start using 100% o2 to deco at 10' but the dive shop I frequent doesn't think it's safe to boost it over 2000psi, and they only have 80% in the banks. Well is it safe to boost to 3000psi with the HASKEL BOOSTER for my 30cuft pony?
Thanks...

Sergio,
First and foremost welcome to the boards. You will find that everyone here is well on their way to becoming friends and buddies. Welcome to the party, we're glad you're here.

Second, I gather from your questions that you haven't been through a formal training class yet. There are some courses that will properly teach you how to do and survive an extended range deco dive and use a variety of O2 percentages to use on deco stops. I would highly recommend that you complete the training. All your questions will be answered in this process.

Hello Sergio welcome to the boards. What level diver are you Sergio OW AOW DM? I cant agree with Mario enough, you need certification to be safe at those depths. Are you aware of the massively increased cleaning procedures for EA, especially at anywhere near 100% oxygen?

Sergio,
One more thing, I noticed that you are in the Southern California area. If you care to you can get hold of me either by e-mail or ICQ, and we can talk further. I'm in San Diego and can help you to answer some specific questions you might have. I'll be at DEMA shortly, so it may take a few days to get back to you, but I will definitely get back to you.

Sergio:

Please remember that the concept of “treating you because you have missed the deeper stops” is really only in the theory stage at this point. In my opinion, it is probably correct, but it has not been tested in laboratory trials where all of the variables have been controlled. It found its origin in the work and theories of Brian Hills, PhD, then in Australia.

Based on the concept that bubble formation does not occur when supersaturation is exceeded (the Haldane theory) but rather that preformed micronuclei exist in your body (generated by hydrodynamic cavitation)and grow during supersaturation, then deeper stops should be the way to go.

How this is done PRECISELY is a matter of conjecture now.

A word of caution: Oxygen is serious stuff, with potentially disastrous qualities if not taken seriously and handled in strict accordance with accepted protocols and procedures. Don't even think of messing with it without formal training.
Serious.
Rick

Thanks for the replies. Now hears a little about me.
I've been certified AOW since 1992 by NAUI, and for NITROX by ANDI since 1998. Last year is when I really started to dive, logging over 160 dives. I have my loggs online if you care to browse them.

Here

I've been doing some research on the net about Diving and also started reading two books. EXTENDED RANGE & TRI-MIX EXPLORATION DIVING by Harry Wenngats & Edward A Betts, and OXYGEN HACKERS COMPANION by Vance Harlow. Any information that is given to me here is appreciated.
Thanks for the warm welcome...
Sergio
PS. Mario what is ICQ ?

Sergio,

First let me say welcome to the board.

O2 diving without the formal training is dangerous to say the least, would recomend you take some classes through IANTD or TDI, before ever starting to mess with the stuff.

Kinda like puffer fish sushi, taste wonderful unless it's prepared wrong, then it will kill you.

SERIOUS

Don

Sergio,
I took a look at your dives, looks like your on your way... just make sure you have the right gear and buddy when you do your deep dives. Looks like you had one there that was 177' for a 45min total bottom time. What kind of computer(s) are you using?

One other book that is a must read for deep diving is one by Bret Gilliam called Deep Diving. Here's a link in case you don' have it yet:

Hey guys. I just ordered the book on DEEP DIVING. Also I just acqured PRO DIVE PLANNER deco program.
As for my gear I use a Poseidon Cyclone 5000 1st and 2nd stage air delivery w/ a sherwood airII type Safe 2nd, COCHRAN- COMMANDER NITROX dive computer that is programable for two mixes, I just got a Dive Rite Transpack II with wreck wings, and I use my dive watch as a back up bottom timer.
Dive Safe!!!
Sergio
