Thanks Polar....glad to see you over here!

Hey, did you enter that fireworm photo in any contests? I think that's my all time favorite of your photo's. And that's a hard choice!

Polar,

Being a "newbie" photo nut, can you give me info on this pic? How close were you to this creature before you snapped the flash in his eyes and did he then bite you?

:devilish:

No, have not entered any contests, but thanks for the complement! I have considered entering, just looking for the right one!

I am using a Nikonos V with SB104 Strobe, 1:1 extension tubes and framers. This puts me about 3 inches from the moray. They generally won't bite, but I always keep it in the back of my mind. I have had a Green Moray come after me before.

Great Photo! I was using an extension tube once to shoot a little spotted eel and he (she?) began to chew on the framing bar! My fingers et alia did not seem to get his (her?) attention.

Also, while diving at Cayman Brac at the Russian Frigate, a wonderful moray (about 6-7 ft long) called "Psycho" swam out amongst us and I spent a fair amount of time photographing "Psycho"--although he would not let me get as close as I wanted. He has a very scary-looking twisted snout--something right out of a Stephen King novel--but I assumed he was a normal passive eel type and did not hesitate trying to get close. When we came back aboard the boat and I asked about this funny eel, the crew were amazed that I had not been bitten. They claimed that "Psycho" did not like flashes from stobes and that the previous week a photographer had been bitten. May be an apochryphal story....

Nice photo anyhow!
