the NEW Scubapro W-wing BC looks pretty cool

http://www.scubapro.co.uk/index1.html

I was going to get a Scubapro superhawk for my first BC but now im not so sure. My local shop does the xwing for 215 and the weight system for 85 pounds. Im not sure if you can get actual pockets for the BC also though. Anyone Used either of these BC's? Any info would be good thx :)

ScubaPro B.C.'s are mediocre at best, do you have any other options available? SeaQuest, Zeagle, OMS, DUI etc...

Mario :D

Well Mario my other options where the Zeagle ranger and tech, but iv heard nothing but mediocre/bad things about them. In every review i read the scubapro BCs came out top including divernet. My other choice would have been a Buddy Trident although i cant seem to find many reviews on that BC. The problem is Mario that whichever BC i need i am most likely going to have to order it. If i order it into a shop specialy then really im obliged to pay for it.

For Mario:
I might characterize specific features or items of certain Scubapro BC's in specific terms, but to characterize the entire line as "mediocre at best" is irresponsible and inaccurate. The same goes for any line of BC's. The "best" BC varies with the mission, the environment, and the equipment you're carrying/wearing. I personally have four BC's from four different lines that range from the tropical "Explorer" (Seaquest) to Dive-Rite's "Transpac II" with two sets of wings. One of the others is a Scubapro QD which happens to be as close to perfect as can be for the type diving where I use it. (Otherwise I'd have bought another brand)
For LoCz:
BC selection is personal and important. While "features" are the advertising forté, *fit and comfort* are, in my opinion, the most important factors, followed closely by ease of use (both at depth and floating on the surface). You can always add "D" rings & such later if you really need 'em. For new divers I generally advise staying away from back inflated BC's because many new divers find them to be very uncomfortable on the surface. If you are contemplating a back-inflated BC I highly recommend you spend 10 minutes or so floating with it in a pool before you buy to see if it's really what you want.
Having parts and service readily available is another factor that can be important, so I also recommend you buy from the line your local dive store carries. Some day that'll save you a dive.

Rick,
I'm mearly referring to the fact that when you compare a ScubaPro B.C. (apples to apples) with a another B.C. in it's class, there's always something better about the other one... I've worked the dive industry for quite some time now, and have yet to run into a pro who honestly beleives to the contrary... I'll probably get lotsa hell for this one, so let me just say that this is my personal opinion and observation and isn't intended to offend anyone... Having said that...

Happy Holidays everyone,
Mario :D

I have no experience at all with any of ScubaPro's BCs, but I do have some experience with Zeagle's Ranger, Concept, and Tech. I'd have to say you'd have a real hard time beating the quality of Zeagle's line with others compareable to them. You should also consider Halcyon, Dive Rite, and DUI, if you want a true harness/wings setup.

Just my .02

Well, the ScubaPro line has a RecTEK and TravTEK BC which are the only ones I know of being offered from the S-Tek line of BC's from ScubaPro. One has 53lbs of lift the other... just under 30lbs. I've looked at them but neither really appealed to me.

I was gonna be a Billboard for Scubapro products, by that I mean I was going to get everything Scubapro, but I tried some BC's, namely the Accent, Classic, and the superhawk, and as an accident I got my hands on a Zeagle ranger, and suffice to say that two days later I had put in my order at zeagle. Just my .02.

I have a scubapro s-tec bc with the puretec wing on it.. It is the best BC I have ever used and I will never switch to another.. It is a full technical bc.. NO FLAMES ON THIS ONE.. but other "normal" bc's give me the impression of being a babys toy.. Technical bc's are not meant to look neat or colorful.. they just get the job done better than any other i've used.. Not trying to start a pissing contest here but this is my $.02

I agree with your assessment. I was the first person in VA to own a SCUBAPRO jacket, purchased in 1977. I used it for 14 years and it was wonderful. I would never look at an "Atpac" wing again. However, when the jacket was totally worn out, I replaced it with a SCUBAPRO "double black" adapting the original, high quality, hard pack and metal clamp with nylon waist strap. I was unhappy. Discovered the that the skirt was two inches longer which made it difficult to access my fish stringer, etc. It had two huge pockets which made it bulky.

Later, I bought a slim tropical model which had a short skirt but quickly discovered that it was a poor design. The arm holes were too large which allowed the tank to move all over the clock. I then bought a Beauchat adjustable "Master Lift" which is compact and very nice but still allows the regulator to bump the back of my head.

Lastly, I found a Seaquest 3 Dimension which is a back inflating softpac(small plastic back plate) and which employs the most wonderfully complex system of cantilevered straps and tensioners that I have ever seen. I could never have thought of it, but in spite of the complexity the Dimension is actually simple to use. All adjustment takes place at the waist, pulling on the belt ends automatically adjusts the shoulder straps. Once in place and adjusted, this thing fits like a glove. Removing the unit is simplified by quick release buckles at the shoulders. It has superb balance and is not bad on the surface. It packs flat and compact. It has no pockets, though. These vests are no longer in production and are fairly rare but it is verrrry nice.

I have no special case to make for back mounts in general. I am still leery of the over hyped "wings". One thing, I don't understand the comments about being "squeezed" by jackets. I dove the original Scubapro stab jacket hundreds of hours without any such problem.
