Hi,
I would like to do some good diving with no mass tourism.
Southern Egypt and in particular Marsa Alam seem to be the right place but before committing I would like to gather more info.

Does anyone have any direct experience?

Thanks,
Maurizio

HI Maurizio,

I haven't been there myself but I do have a couple of places for you to check out, just click on the links below. Egypt and Hermes Group. Hermes Group is a travel/tourism group that provides diving in Marsa Alam.

Hope this helps.

Cheer,

I did Marsa Alam in 1999. Its getting built up very quickly now, a new airport is planned I hear.

Its very much as the red sea used to be, but most of your diving will be shore diving. Because of this you will not see much large life, but you will see some excellent coral.

I stayed at the Kharamana, Blondie Beach, which was very good for Egypt. You can take day trips to Elphinstone and other worthwhile deep water reefs.

You will find more info on my web site!

Would love to hear how you get on.

Regards

I live in Egypt and did Mersa Alam many times, It is true, not a whole lot of great stuff to see from the shore dives. I would look into a Livaboard to the Brothers Island and the Zabargad. there is the real serious stuff.

Yours is a great one too, and i don't mean the guy you are with. but he is a nice guy. I am off diving at Sharm in the morning, will letu guys know if I see any fish down there.

Hi there,

i've been on the southern tour close to marsa alam on a liveabord! there's some great stuff out there for shure...
but you'll need to get on a boat to reach the goodies.
close to the shore might be good as well but no big fish and lots of traffic...

i'd like to go in august and i'm looking for somebody to join me...

I'm off the Marsa Alam on the 30.08.02, so i will let you know what it is like.

i booked mine through oonasdivers they were by far the cheapest, and came across as the most professional. you can make your own flight arrangements as well if you wish
