  1. Greet Island Getaway and snorkelling

    Its nice to occasionally get away for a short break, and I was lucky enough this week to go and stay at Green Island with the family for a couple for days. I used to work there for a few years taking divers out but in all that time never bothered to stay at the Resort. I must say, after the boats and day passengers had left it was a magical experience. Wish I had stayed longer.

    Having a recent discussion with a friend about pygmy sea horses (found rarely out on the Reef here) I thought would repeat some of a good article about Sea Horses (from the GBRMPA news letter).

    Seahorses are the only animal species on Earth in which the male bears the unborn young.

    Male seahorses have a pouch on their abdomen, which the female utilizes when depositing her eggs.

    The male then fertilizes them and carries the eggs in his pouch.

  3. White whale spotted off Cairns

    Quite a week this week. Migaloo the white whale was spotted off of Port Douglas a few days ago so we expect her to be in the Cairns Reef waters for a day or so more.

    Reef magic are offering day trip whale watching tours for $90 with whales guaranteed or you go again fro free! Spotter planes are used and so its pretty certain you will get some real sightings.

    Hello and Happy Easter to all of you people enjoying an extended weekend break.

    For those of you who got in early, there were some great overnight deals gong on for this weekend, but with the onset of the beautiful weather, and of course the holiday season kicking off, boats are filling up fast.

    Everyone knows the Great Barrier Reef is World heritage listed and is a marine Park, but do you know who actually looks after it?
