Okay so last night I got the idea in my head that I needed a new dive knife. I had an old kershaw kinda beat up. So I went to a local dive shop after doing a bit of research and wound up with a Akona Sidekick. It has a couple of good features that I like about it so I figured that I would share my opinion.

1.) Nice hard plastic sheath.
2.) This one is important. A good solid locking mechanisim so when you actually push the knife in to the sheath you can feel it lock. The button is easy to get to so even in gloves its no problem.
3.) 420 SS need I say more.
4.) The Blade has a blunt tip/standard blade on one side and a serated blade and line cutter on the other side.
The line cutter is placed towards the tip of the blade. This is good so that the guard dosen't interfere with the line cutter.
5.) the base of the knife has a nice steel laynard attachment. Good for pounding/signaling
6.) the handle is nice and thick so unlike those tech knives. gripping it with cold gloved hands should pose no problem.
7.) it was priced in a good range at 56$ after taxes

So that's all for my review of the knife. The next thing that I think I need is a spell checker..

Hi Nathan welcome to the diving forums :)

I dont know anything about knives but in this months (February) "diver" magazine there is a huge review on diving knives. Unfortuanately this review wont be placed onto the diver web site http://www.divernet.com for another month so you would have to buy the mag. I dont know if this will help, but i hope it does.
