Hi, I was wondering if there are any books on hand signals, for instance including an extended list of fish identification signals or other fauna/flora.

If not, I was considering researching and writing one myself. Do you think there would be an interest in that?

I have not come across a book like that. I'm sure there would be interest, just based on some conversations I have had with folks at the LDS.

A organized underwater signaling system, identified as the "Sea Sabres Underwater Signaling system" has been around since the early 1950s. 5000 copies of a brochure was printed as well as being published in a modern magazine of that era. It was originally adapted by LA County UW instructors in 1954, NAUI when they were established in 1960 and PADI when they were established in 1969.

However, it may be time to update/revise the system for modern divers.

As a starting point in you research I would suggest that you begin here:

Good luck,

And cheap too!
