"Trapped Under the Sea" by Neil Swidey new book to be released on Feb 18. Not typical underwater story but close.
In 1999, during construction of a sewer tunnel under Boston harbor five commercial divers attempt 9.6 mile long dry penetration with the use of two Humvees and a custom, or rather homemade breathing gas generator. Thou story is well known,....well at least at my circles, author brings a bit more detail of what actually happened. There is a good account of circumstances leading to tragedy: exceeded budget, pressure to finish late project, line of safety compromises, bad decisions, conflicting personalities, pressuring divers into performing unjustified risks - the receipt for the disaster there is so often present on the job sites.
