Hi!

I'm searching for a good book/fish guide about the Indian ocean. Soon going to the Maldives and it would be nice to bring some litterature about what I'm about to see.

Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance!

+1 Tim Godfrey's book for an interesting general read with some fishes.

The Debelius' book range is generally the most concise- there is one specifically for the Indian Ocean.

I recommend Dr R.C Anderson's 'Reef Fishes of the Maldives' which is cheaper, Maldives-specific and much more travel-friendly than the heavier Debelius. It only has fish- no crustaceans, corals etc.

I have Anderson's shark book also. Unfortunately due to the worldwide slaughter, it's basically a list of the sharks that you won't be going to see! That said, I heard a report that a dive last week in Addu Atoll produced 5x Tiger Sharks- so maybe there is a small rebound in the less common species.

Yeah, it's too bad what's happening to the sharks.
I will be going around Ari atoll, this is my liveaboard route.

I saw a Whale shark several times on Maldives, this one is actually quite possible to find:) Was an amazing experience:wink:
