Not directly related to diving, but I have just started reading "The Sea and Civilization: A Maritime History of the World"
Pretty detailed, this is the overview from B&N

Lincoln Paine takes us back to the origins of long-distance migration by sea with our ancestors first forays from Africa and Eurasia to Australia and the Americas. He demonstrates the critical role of maritime trade to the civilizations of ancient Egypt, Mesopotamia, and the Indus Valley. 2nd edition of mine should be ready on createspace and Amazon in a week and half or so. My guy doing the cover art is moving this week. In sub zero temps and a couple feet of snow. Last word was it should be done this weekend. Fingers crossed.
