I always setup my own gear and swap my own tanks. I just politely ask the crew to allow me to and so far it's been no problem. One time a crew grabbed my BP/W to hand it to me and they grabbed it by my top cam band. I use a DR cam band on top and a SP style cam band on the bottom, so the top cam band is a loop and i guess can be used to pick up the rig. If they insist, I would just ask them to grab the rig by the harness.
