Deep Sea Supply Back Plate and Wing

I wanted to purchase a back plate and wing for my son's birthday. I heard good things about DSS so I sent an email to DSS about some configuration questions I had. The owner, Tobin, responded directly to my emails. I finally called him because he wanted details about where my son dives, what equipment he uses, his experience level as well as his weight and height. I'm never dealt with the owner of a scuba manufacturer before but I suspect that most are not like Tobin. He not only knows the equipment he builds but he also has an encyclopedic knowledge of diving.

I ended up ordering a back plate and wing from DSS on Dec 30. I received it yesterday. The fit and finish is excellent. The instructions are good and if there are questions then the DSS website has videos that address them.

I could not be more impressed with DSS and Tobin. I highly recommend purchasing gear from them. I know that I'll be ordering a BP&W from DSS when I start my doubles training.

This is precisely why I continue to recommend DSS as my go-to source for people for backplates. Sometimes Tobin's insistence on getting the information he wants to make good recommendations annoys people, but in the end, you get gear that works when you get it from Tobin. And if you ever have any problems with it, the customer service then is just as good.

Stick with DSS. Tobin and his products will treat you well for a long, long time.

My DSS rig was the best diving related purchase I've made to date! Tobin might not have a "care-bear" personality, but he won't steer you wrong, and knows what he's talking about.

Pedro, when I decided to purchase a BP/W, my experience with Tobin was just like yours. Needless to say, I was impressed.
Ditto what Lynn says. Anytime someone asks me about a BP/W, I direct them to DSS.
He does have a "Care Bear" personality, I came away from my discussion with him and receipt of my gear with warmth and fuzzies.

Trust me, I had the warm fuzzies. Did the requisite happy dance in my new plate and everything. What I meant was that he can come across as gruff.
